Being The Poet.

I have spent quite a bit of time over the past several months contributing to a weekly bible study in a creative way.  Rick Harper, who speaks at GTCCF, uses "characters" to explain different perspectives on various texts in scripture.  

At the beginning of the year, my friend Kami Burns decided to dub me "The Poet".  Now, to be clear, I am not a poet in any way. I enjoy poetry. I  love folks like Billy Collins, T.S. Eliot, Wordsworth, Robert Frost, Hafiz, and many others.  Loving the authors of course does not qualify me to write my own.  

At first I would try to frame my writings as a poet might look at the text.  This proves to be a difficult task to maintain.  It's hard to stay honest when you are trying to write about personal issues but not as yourself.  So, I write as myself.  Usually, the person that is addressed is Rick, but I'm going to spend some time posting these little writings as time goes on. 

Of course, most of it is pretentious and most likely just plain dumb.  But, it's what I have.
