winterfest

I love the season of Fall. While it is true that I am a Georgia boy, been one my entire life, there is something deep down that tells me that I was born in the wrong state-perhaps the wrong latitude. You see, I love the cold. I love Jack Frost, especially when he is nipping at my nose. And I can promise you that while you may complain about the chilly weather as it slowly sets in, you won’t hear a word from me. You will only see a smile on my face.

This time of year is when it all begins. When the jacket first makes his way out of my closet is the first moment that I begin to truly think about the holidays. As of today, we are only two months away from that sad day known as the day after Christmas, or if you are Canadian, Boxing Day. This is the day where kids across the country are waking up in hopes of a redo of Christmas morning, but soon realize just how far away they are from next Christmas. How life is all going to go back to normal. The radio will stop playing cheesy Christmas music. It will go back to playing cheezy Michael Bolton and Mariah Carey. The lights will come down. The Santa suits will be put away.

But not today. No. Today is the day where retail shops across the country are setting up their holiday displays. Starbucks is putting the red dye on their cups in a paper factory somewhere in this world. You are looking into your closet and wondering if it is time to bring out that scarf.

This is a very good day. A great day. And hopefully we are all going to get to munch on some pumpkin seeds, carve some pumpkins ( I never have) and perhaps wear some silly costume that will embarrass us greatly in future years. Enjoy it. Because this season that we call the Holidays is beginning. Don’t fight it. Watch some scary movies. Get excited about viewing Home Alone for the 20th year in a row. Have a Pumpkin Spice Latte. A Gingerbread Latte. A Peppermint Mocha. You’ll be missing this when it’s February.
