What is Globalscope?

I wrote this for the globalscope webpage, but was told that it was "folksy". Anyway, this is Globalscope, broken down from my perspective.

(Intro paragraph)

Globalscope is a growing group of people that have a passion for college students to know the Jesus who loves them. Missionaries of a Globalscope team take a different approach by building deep friendships with the students of a local campus. We believe that Jesus came and made his dwelling among us, and so we go to where college students hangout. We are at the soccer fields in Santiago. We are at the cafes in Salamanca. We are at the dinning halls in Puebla. We believe that Jesus desires to know and be known intimately by young adults all over the world, from Mexico City to Bangkok. Globalscope is about being the hands and feet of Jesus to a generation that still hasn’t found what it’s looking for.

Visit the websites of our various teams and see how they are working to build friendships with students from all over the Globe.

Mexico City, Mexico

Back in 1999, a young group of pioneers set off to Mexico City to begin the first Globalscope team. Before long, a thriving ministry named “El Oasis” was in place, and the foundation was set for a beautiful relationship between Jesus and the students of Mexico City. Today, this granddaddy of Globalscope, is sending out it’s own students to various parts of the globe to be interns and staff in other cities, to start their own ministries, or to simply go into the workplace as a child of God. The history of this ministry is beautiful to experience, and moving to be apart of. To see more, visit us at: Website here.

Santiago, Chile

Based on the success of reaching out the students of Mexico, missionaries were then sent to this incredibly beautiful city set in the Andes Mountains. After spending months building relationships, the team had a blast opening the campus house and seeing the students pour in. Like Mexico City, this El Oasis is constantly bringing in exchange students, going on retreats, and then seeing leaders rise up within the ministry. Santiago has a wonderful culture, and the friendships and impact made with the students there will be lifelong. It’s a gift to see Jesus move and love on the students in this great place. Bangkok, Thailand

While it is true that God has done great things through people in Latin countries, what about the lost and lonely youth on the other side of the world? Are these kids that speak such a different language so incredibly different than us? Are they actually seeking for something more, or is this just a regional phenomenon? The answer is unequivocally no. Ever since Greg and Alison Coley began building relationships with the Thai students, they have faced an awesome adventure of cultural and language learning, and have seen the fruit of a community rise up in the Far East. Salamanca, Spain

In the fall 2004, Globalscope took a giant leap of faith towards the continent of Europe. The Globalscope team in Salamanca was faced with many of the same questions that had been asked previously. While many of today’s generation is cynical towards the church in Europe, we have found out first hand that the students at the Universidad de Salamanca are eager to enter into friendships with young Christians like the ones that are now in Spain. After spending late hours into the night for many months experiencing this incredible culture and getting to know the students that call it home, En Vivo, which means “live” opened it’s doors on April 7th 2005. The five team members and 12 exchange students were awed to see around 90 students come through the doors of the freshly renovated campus house. Students are now getting to know Jesus through bible studies, dinners, events, and just being friends with the team that is there. We are now excited to see other campus ministries begin in other parts of Europe in the years to come. Find out all that we’re up to and see the pictures of the house, the team, and the students at www.globalscopespain.org.

Puebla, Mexico

At the same time that the team members where heading to Spain, Globalscope was beginning it’s second effort in Mexico. In a beautiful town and a relaxed, laid back culture, the students at The Univerity of the Americas have been building relationships with a young and dynamic team of missionaries. Along with a strong group exchange students, the Globalscope team in Puebla opened the doors to an amazing ministry called “El Pozo” (The Well) in the spring of 2005. Hanging out in their green house, students are constantly dropping by to participate in language learning programs, games, bible studies, just to hangout, and much more. Puebla is beginning to see the same amazing results of Jesus working in the hearts of students from Mexico. This ministry is young, vibrant, and growing. Campinas, Brazil

Soon, the same amazing love and joy that is brought with a relationship with Jesus will be brought to the students in this fascinating country. Please check back as the team is being put together and preparing to go.

Birmingham, England

Right now, a team is being formed to begin the second Globalscope campus ministry on the European continent. A wonderful opportunity to build relationships and present the gospel through the love of Jesus will be available in the short future.

My friend Javier

I met Javier back in February of 2005, while watching a soccer match between Madrid and Barcelona. Javier, who comes from the Navarra region of Spain near Pamplona, was passionate, intelligent, and hilarious. I remember when we first asked him what he thought of our ministry, and what he thought of En Vivo. I will never forget what he said. Javier said that he loved the atmosphere of the place, he loved the team and he loved the exchange students. He said that it was so great to have met us. But Javier was not hesitant to add that when we started talking about Jesus, he quit listening. After several months of spending time with Javier, playing endless hours of video games, and working with him on our first skits for bible study, Javier and I left each other as good friends. Recently, when fulltime team member, Chris Bierne, returned for a short furlough in the United States, he told me how Javier had made some goals over the course of the next year. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard that one of his goals was to learn as much about the bible as he could. I am simply in awe of the way that Jesus has loved him and brought him into the community of En Vivo in Salamanca. I know that right now, many other stories are developing and people are being changed by the love of Christ. –Jason Tatum (former exchange student to Salamanca)
