Have you ever known anyone to buy something from SkyMall? SkyMall is
that catalog that they have on flights. It is full of the most
outrageous and expensive items that you can imagine. It is basically
a catalog full of stuff that no one actually needs, but you might
think you need when you are 30,000 feet in the air and have had
several glasses of wine. Usually these products retail for about 3x
what they would if they were being sold on the ground, so to speak.
There is something about the altitude that jacks up the prices.
What household products are missing from your home?
Maybe you need a 100 ft retractable garden hose? That'll be $100.
An upside down tomato garden? Thank God for SkyMall! 79.95.
Big Foot Garden Sculpture: 98.95.
Needing entertainment? How does the world's largest crossword puzzle
strike your fancy? Only 29.99.
So yes. That's what we're dealing with in the SkyMall.
And this is all to say that I met someone last week whose parents had
bought from SkyMall. They got the Hot Diggity Dogger. It's a hot dog
maker, of course. No idea on the price. It seems that it has somehow
gone out of production. Imagine that.
I will say this, though- the guy whose parents bought the hot dog
maker, well, he is really cool. So I guess that is an endorsement for
SkyMall.
