We Are Marshall

Its a couple of days after Christmas now. Whenever I'm living in this time of year, I always wonder what it is that I do the rest of the time between January 2nd and the month of December. While I smile into the eyes of friends that are new and old, I get that warm feeling that tells me that this life was created to be good and that everything is going to be alright.

On another note, Some friends and I have a very long running tradition of seeing a movie on Christmas night. After going through a couple of years of less than thrilling shows (The Aviator, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Family Stone), we finally hit one that was worth my $8.25. Okay, no movie is worth $8.25, but you get the idea.

"We Are Marshall" is another one of those movies that is set in the seventies where everyone is overcoming something. Think "Miracle", "Invicible", "Glory Road" and so forth. I label these films with such titles as "Remember More Titans" or "Still Remembering the Titans." Its all basically the same.

"Marshall" certainly had its fair share of cliche tears, fist pumps, oldies music and "go get um" speeches. All this is to say, however, that it was inspirational. It was powerful. I'm amazed that my cold cynical heart still has its strings pulled by Hollywood with the same damn film, over and over.

So families across the country, I would encourage you to celebrate Kwanzaa or Festivus or whatever at a theater near you with "We Are Marshall". Then you can promptly swear off air travel and set some jello firm New Year's resolutions.
